Workshops
Imaging Fusion is available to produce in-house workshops. Our consultants have lectured on the national level to audiences of thousands. They can customize a Workshop for your facility and its’ unique issues. Or, they can provide their Performance Management Workshop, which is their expertise. Imaging Fusion realizes that the relevance and credibility of what healthcare managers measure is designed for accounting rather than for business management. A Finance department collects, monitors and reports information for tax, legal and organizational requirements to satisfy their fiduciary role. In most cases, it does not successfully crossover to the clinical managers’ needs nor, the clinical managers’ skills set. The role of the hospital Finance department should add value to their reports, rather than simply reporting numbers.
A significant part of Imaging Fusion’s Performance Management Workshop is an education of finance and business. In healthcare, there has been a lack of integration for far too long. Imaging Fusion’s goal is to bridge the gap between financial and clinical managers. Facilities that are financially successful have better clinical outcomes than facilities that are not financially successful.
In our experience, Imaging Fusion consultants have found too many static imaging departments. Many imaging departments will operate and profit similarly to how they operated and profited last year. And many imaging departments will increase their volume while decreasing their costs, but not enough.
Andrew Groves, CEO of Intel until 1998, calls a drastic change in the way we do business as a “Strategic Inflection Point.” Below is an excerpt from his book “Only the Paranoid Survive”.
| For now, let me just say that a strategic inflection point is a time in the life of a business when its fundamentals are about to change. That change can mean an opportunity to rise to new heights. But it may just as likely signal the beginning of the end. Strategic inflection points can be caused by technological change but they are more than technological change. They can be caused by competitors but they are more than just competition. They are full-scale changes in the way business is conducted, so that simply adopting new technology or fighting the competition as you used to may be insufficient. They build up force so insidiously that you may have a hard time even putting a finger on what has changed, yet you know that something has. Let's not mince words: A strategic inflection point can be deadly when unattended to. Companies that begin a decline as a result of its changes rarely recover their previous greatness. But strategic inflection points do not always lead to disaster. When the way business is being conducted changes, it creates opportunities for players who are adept at operating in the new way. This can apply to newcomers or to incumbents, for whom a strategic inflection point may mean an opportunity for a new period of growth. You can be the subject of a strategic inflection point but you can also be the cause of one. |
At Imaging Fusion, we passionately support Andy Groves’ theory on strategic inflection points. We wholeheartedly believe that any healthcare facility, no matter how prestigious, how steeped in tradition, how old, or how stable will not weather the storm of healthcare reform by continuing “business as usual”. Anyone that believes they work in an indestructible facility is misled. All one has to do is review the list of prestigious, traditional, old, stable hospitals which closed since 1990.
On March 21, 2010, U.S. Congress voted to pass a landmark health care reform package. Within the 1025-page bill are multiple requirements which mandate measurements, metrics, performance information, report cards, trend analysis, tracking progress, goals and objectives. This bill confirms that the strategic inflection point is Imaging Fusion. It is the perfect storm for Imaging Fusion’s futuristic vision.
